It’s my birthday, and I am 24 years old. Why does that sound like an AA meeting, or something? Like a confessional? Because I’m not bummed about it by any means – in fact I think I like the sound of it a lot better! It’s a kind of in between age like 23 is, still on that cusp…still uncertain, but certainly nearing the rank of legitimate adult. Rather than you know, man-child status, which is what I feel like I have at the moment!
So what does 24 even look like? What should I expect? In all honesty I think I just want things to continue on the path they seem to be going…because I have faith that there is a lot of positive stuff in store. And I’ll be honored to have you all along with me for the ride! For all the thrills, and spills, for all the bumps, and…lumps? Urgh, errrr…well maybe we’ll ask the doctor about that one –
But anyway! If you are looking to get me anything for my birthday – then a homemade savoury pie of some description would be great! Or you know, share one of my stories you enjoy with the world…either, or! Pie is naturally preferable though! Here’s to another year, much love to you all – cheers!

From experience, 24 will fly by like 23. Then when you get to 25 you’ll be like yes! Quarter century. You’ll forget 24 existed even before it began.

Wow! I see! 25 does seem like a bit of a landmark in life, quarter century sounds hefty! 😀 time does fly though!

Happy birthday! 😀
I turned 25 in January so I’m pretty sure I’m not meant to act like an adult but that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon!
Have a great day! x

Thank you 🙂 I could lie and say that being 24 was amazing but to be honest it wasn’t much different than being 23 but it’s definitely better than saying I’m 25 sounds old 😉 haha

Happy birthday! I think I spent 24-28 wondering at what point I’d become a grown-up like everyone else around me. Now I’m 29 I’ve finally realised most people are just playing at being an adult. Or I’m just desperately trying to cling on to my youth and pretend nothing is changing as 30 looms…

Oh, and the last thing you want to ever do is start acting like an “adult.” Follow your heart and all will fall into place!

The uncertainty about life never goes away. I am 32 and question my mother about how she feels creeping into 60….no different than in her 20’s just the body changes and you have a hell of a lot more experience.

Mazal Tov! May this be a year of Only Good Surprises. I started undergraduate school when I was 24. Late bloomer, as it were–but actually it weren’t. It was just that I was busy playing the banjo on the street while everyone else was slaving away over the typewriter. Yes, typewriters! No white-out permitted in my stuffy old College–you had to type the whole page over. Typewriter PTSD! AAAAAGH!!!!
Oh, and about that pie. Is it one of those steak-and-kidney numbers with the flaky lard crust? I used to play Irish music in a Cornish pub and they gave me those things in lieu of pay. I liked the Harp lager and I admit to downing several pints of black-and-tan, and that braced me up for the pies. Cultural thing, you know. Every culture seems to have its meat-filled dough thingie. Dim Sum! Now there’s what I want for my birthday. Keeping kosher has seriously put the kabosh on my Dim Sum addiction. I may have to waive that (the kosher, not the Dim Sum) at some point.
But really, what sort of pie floats your boat? Tongue? What kinds are there?
By the way, unlike 23, which is a prime number, and 25, which is pretty cool because it is five times five and Nature is full of five-fold symmetry, 24 is just loaded with ways to divide itself. I mean, it’s not like 144, but in its own way it’s quite sweet. Just like you ❤

Happy Birthday! I turned 24 a decade ago and time has flown by! 24 was a big year for me bc I got married. That changed my world and I’m not sure what 24 would have been without that. I do know that at 25 I freaked out bc of the whole quarter century thing. 30 was an even bigger deal. I’ll be 35 this year which is the age I consider someone a “real” adult (as I get older I keep pushing this age back). Mostly I’m becoming less and less concerned about the passing years and my age and more and more concerned with appreciating the now. There is so much more time left in life for us (if things go well). What exciting adventures lie in front of you! This should give you something to look forward to you as I’m sure they’ll be many.

Honestly, I thought you were older than me. But I’m older than you. This leaves me baffled. I guess, to me, you seemed older in that “Kung Fu” fighting performance. I thought you were in your early thirties, but don’t take that in a bad way. It’s just that, yeah, it wouldn’t have occurred to me that yesterday, you were twenty-three.
Have a splendid birthday!

When I was the same age, I woke up one morning with a cop’s gun poking into my temple, while he said, “Freeze motherfucker.” It was the most terrifying thing in my entire life.
I was in jail over a year after that, on my roommate”s dope charges. It scarred me for life. Thank god you’ve escaped anything similar.

You are remarkable, John! Space here would not allow me to enumerate all the reasons why. If I had children (though I’m glad I have none even though I love them), I would want my son to be just like you, and would have a reason to make sweet & savory pies. Happy Birthday! 😀
